Expedite requests are a way to ask U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) to process an application or petition faster than the standard processing times due to urgent circumstances. The request aims to push your case to the front of the line to accommodate special situations that demand quicker action.
When Can You Request an Expedite?
USCIS considers expedite requests if they meet one or more of the following criteria:
- Severe Financial Loss to a Company or Individual: If the standard processing time would cause a substantial financial burden, you could qualify for an expedite.
- Urgent Humanitarian Reasons include serious illness, medical emergencies, and other humanitarian issues.
- Emergencies and Critical Situations: These typically refer to situations where the applicant’s well-being is at risk or a compelling U.S. government interest is involved.
- Nonprofit organization designated by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS): You can request an expedite if a nonprofit status furthering the cultural and social interests of the United States is involved.
- USCIS error: If a delay or a decision was the result of an error by USCIS, an expedite may be granted.
Note that providing evidence to support your expedite request significantly increases your chances of approval.
